ACADEMICS
Briarwood College is committed to offering programs that foster intellectual, professional and personal growth through selected combinations of general education and program-specific courses. General education courses are designed to develop each student's ability to analyze information, draw logical conclusions, use technology appropriately in problem solving and communications, express ideas and opinions with clarity and confidence, and to recognize the value of leadership, responsible citizenship, cultural diversity, and physical well being. To assist in meeting these goals, all degree programs include a broad selection of general education courses.
College Insights
All first-year students are required to take a course
called College Insights that is designed to help students develop the necessary academic skills to enable the student to succeed in other college courses.
Student Orientation
Prior to each semester, all new students are invited to an Orientation Program covering topics related to the college transition, academic and student
supported services, extracurricular activities, technology, and campus resources.
Guided Study
The College has instituted a Guided Study period for students who have
scored low in two or more subject areas of the placement tests. Guided study
sessions consist of one and one-half hours per week with a faculty tutor in the
Learning Center. Through an early alert system, our faculty identify students
who may be having difficulty with their studies. Advisors then meet with each of
the students to determine what help they may need to be successful.
Internships
Most programs at Briarwood College have an internship requirement, varying from one hundred fifty to four hundred fifty hours. Internships provide an ideal setting for students to practice skills learned in the classroom, gain first-hand knowledge of the career field and make contacts that can lead to job offers after graduation.
