Programs
Briarwood College is committed to offering programs that foster intellectual, professional and personal growth through selected combinations of general education and program-specific courses.
General education courses are designed to develop each student's ability to analyze information, draw logical conclusions, use technology appropriately in problem solving and communications, express ideas and opinions with clarity and confidence, and to recognize the value of leadership, responsible citizenship, cultural diversity, and physical well being. To assist in meeting these goals, all degree programs include a broad selection of general education courses.

Internships
Computer Information Systems students are challenged to apply the concentration-specific knowledge gained through classroom and lab activities by completing one or two internships (equaling 120 hours) in a professional setting.
The program director works closely with prospective internship site supervisors to ensure meaning and successful on-the-job experiences for each student. In many cases, especially when the student has located the site, the interning student is so well received that full-time employment is offered after graduation.
Certification Examinations
Completion of various concentration electives provides the didactic information and hands-on practice necessary for graduates to sit for the national exams for the following certifications or credentials:
- Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+
- Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Networking+
- Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA)
- Certified Novell Administrator (CNA)
Completion of an additional CIS course, taken as the program’s open elective, provides a student with knowledge for the remaining exams for the
- Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) or the
- Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) credentials.
